Where Will You Be?
It’s a common question this time of year as school is ending and springtime is in full force. Where will you be in a year? Your kids…where will they be? How about five years or even ten? Clearly, no one could say for sure. Life moves fast. For many of us, as we watch our kids get pulled in so many directions, we wonder if our kids are disengaging? Are they on the right track? Are they somewhere in-between?
Every day presents new challenges that we, as adults, didn’t have to face as kids. We’re trying to figure out if our kids are playing too many video games or spending too much time on YouTube. Are they missing important social development aspects or are they on track? Instead of calling someone, it’s a text or a Snapchat.
If we look to science for answers on developing happy and connected kids, we find out that one of the best extra-curricular options is to connect through music…especially group singing. Studies show that singing lowers cortisol reducing stress and anxiety. It releases serotonin (a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of euphoria and contentment) and it often produces a “singer’s high” feeling through the release of endorphins that is similar to what runners experience.
At Headliner Vocals, we’re seeing kids experience these benefits on a regular basis. We are a vocal studio specializing in training singers of all levels of ability. We provide private lessons, vocal recording studios, as well as public and private karaoke parties. Our specialty, however, is with group vocal classes including choirs and camps. We engage kids by teaching proper vocals using music styles that kids listen to in the car or on YouTube.
